A client once showed me a dashboard titled "AI Visibility" with a single big number that went up every week. I asked what it measured. They couldn't tell me. That, in one sentence, is the state of most AI visibility reporting in 2026 — confident, green, and meaningless.
So here's the checklist I'd rather you run. It's the thing we actually do when we audit a brand's standing with AI engines. Twenty points, grouped into five areas. Give yourself a point for each one you can genuinely check off, and you'll see your gaps fast.
Entity clarity
- Your brand has one consistent name used everywhere, on-site and off.
- Every page declares who you are and what you do in a clear, repeated statement.
- Your identity is consistent across directories, reviews, socials, and press mentions.
- You can be confidently described as a single entity, not a muddle of overlapping profiles.
Structured data
- Organization (and LocalBusiness where relevant) schema is present and valid.
- Each service or distinct offering has its own accurate Service schema.
- FAQPage schema is in place and matches visible content exactly.
- Schema claims are identical to what a visitor reads — no contradictions.
Content extractability
- Your highest-intent questions are answered in the first two sentences of their pages.
- Key facts (price, service area, differentiators) appear as plain, quotable statements.
- You have at least one piece of original data, a named method, or a first-hand opinion an AI would want to cite.
- Your pages become more specific, not more generic, the deeper you go.
Cross-web consistency
- Your core claims are corroborated by at least a couple of independent, reputable references.
- Reviews and case studies tell the same story as your own pages.
- No stale or inaccurate description of your business is circulating on third-party pages.
- Your brand appears as a named entity in at least one relevant roundup or source list.
Active measurement
- You have a seeded set of buyer questions you check weekly.
- You track citation rate (are you the source?) separately from entity mentions (are you the subject?).
- You log which engine favored you this week, because they differ.
- You've turned the findings into at least one action — a fixed contradiction, a schema addition, a new page — rather than just watching the number.
Reading your score
Scored fourteen and under? Your gap is probably entity clarity and structure — the boring, foundational stuff nobody's excited to do, which is exactly why it separates you from your competitors. Scored eighteen to twenty? You're in good shape, and your job is to keep the measurement loop running so drift doesn't creep back in.
The most honest part of this audit is that it ends in actions, not a vanity score. Every low point maps to a concrete fix: put your answer in the opening lines, add the schema, sweep the contradictions, plant one corroborating mention.
